I grew up around here. I've worked behind a counter in this town long enough to know that the way most people find a tradesperson is still word of mouth, a card in a window, or a conversation across a shop counter. The internet hasn't replaced that — it's just made it harder for the good ones to be found.

The site is the directory. The window at Fore Street is the noticeboard. Both are run by hand. There is no algorithm deciding who gets seen, no upsell to the top of the page. The window has about thirty card slots; when they're full, they're full, and we keep a holding rail.

I check listings personally before they go live, usually within a working day. If something feels off, I'll ring the number. If a customer reports a problem, I'll ring again. That's the bargain.
